The trails are beautifully groomed, but I would say most seemed intermediate and challenging with an uphill grade. I would recommend being in good physical condition and do a lot of walking and stretching prior to your trip and arm strengthening (stress on the arms/shoulders when poling). They do have a ski school and I just looked at their site online and it mentions beginners. So they will probably keep you on the flat areas until they can see you are ready to try the trails. Definitely call and express any concerns. I went with a ski club so two of our members who are experts provided lessons. I have XC skied off/on due to lack of good snow in Chicago, for many years first starting in Vail, Colorado on a golf course. The Winter Park location is beautiful. I look forward to going back. Keep in mind it can be very cold up there in January. We stayed at the Best Western nearby which was great. There is free parking at Winter Park. I would definitely sign up for lessons and practice on flat terrain. Last year it was unseasonably warm in January. Previous year, I was told was unbearably cold. Unfortunately, I am recovering from rotator cuff surgery so I can go this year. Quebec is another place on my list that looks amazing for XC skiing.
