Elon Musk appeared to boast of advance knowledge of a planned arrest related to Social Security fraud, frustrating law enforcement officials, sources tell ABC News.

"This is a mind-blowing chart," Musk said at a March 30 campaign event for the Wisconsin Supreme Court election, pointing to data that showed the number of noncitizens who received Social Security numbers from 2021 to 2024. The chart showed a jump from about 270,000 in fiscal year 2021 to more than 2 million in fiscal year 2024.

Senator Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts, has warned that President Donald Trump and Elon Musk 's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) could make "backdoor" cuts to Social Security. Newsweek has contacted the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Warren's office for comment via email.

The Social Security Administration is one of multiple government agencies targeted by the Department of Government Efficiency's cost-cutting efforts.
