Brian Colbert was officially sworn in at Tuesday’s Marin County Board of Supervisors meeting as the county’s first Black board member in its 175-year history. The oath was administered by his teenage daughter Leila Colbert.

Brian Colbert, Marin County’s first Black supervisor, was sworn into office this week after the supervisors were serenaded by a trio of gospel singers. The singers were there at Colbert’s request. “Some of you are probably wondering why a gospel choir,” Colbert said after he had taken the oath of office.
