Measles cases in the U.S. neared 500 Friday, according to the CDC, as the highly contagious illness continues spreading in Texas after being reported in at least 18 other states. There are 483 confirmed measles cases in the U.

"Due to the highly contagious nature of this disease, additional cases are likely to occur in the outbreak area and the surrounding communities," the Texas Department of State Health Services said

State health officials announced late Monday that they had confirmed a case of measles in a Pueblo resident. It’s Colorado’s first confirmed measles case since 2023 and just its third case in the last nine years.

A Pueblo resident who recently traveled to Mexico is now Colorado’s first confirmed case of measles since 2023, public health officials said Monday.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said Monday evening that the case was confirmed in Pueblo after an unvaccinated adult traveled to an area of Mexico currently experiencing an outbreak.
