Clashes between protesters and government forces have intensified in Los Angeles as at least 2,000 National Guard troops arrived over the weekend to counter demonstrations against President Donald Trump's immigration enforcement policies.

The Los Angeles Police Department said on Sunday (June 8) that it would not have deployed the National Guard to quell the unrest that has flooded the city, and that the troops' involvement was directed ‘top down’ from President Donald Trump’s orders.
