After killing at least five people, the Palisades Fire continued to burn east toward the 405 Freeway and San Fernando Valley, prompting more evacuation orders and warnings in Brentwood and Encino.The Getty Center,

Containment grew from 8% to 11% overnight, according to Cal Fire. But despite the aerial firefighting and 100 engines surging into the Mandeville Canyon area, the flames spread by approximately 1,000 acres overnight into Saturday, said Cal Fire’s Todd Hopkins.

An epic aerial assault was underway Saturday as a fleet of aircraft worked to prevent the Palisades fire from hitting homes in Brentwood and Encino. A shift in winds late Friday sent the fire north and east through the Santa Monica Mountains,

The massive Palisades fire has destroyed an estimated 75% of the Pacific Palisades and officials say the 1/3rd of the eastern edge of Malibu has also been destroyed. The fire is now threatening the nearby communities of Brentwood and Encino.

Ground and aerial firefighters scrambled to save homes in Brentwood from the encroaching Palisades Fire. As of Saturday afternoon, the Palisades Fire was mapped at 22,661 acres and was 11% contained.

More than a dozen people are believed to be dead and many more injured as several fires broke out across Southern California amid historically dry and windy conditions.
