By Kanishka Singh and Susan Heavey WASHINGTON (Reuters) -A second child with measles has died in Texas, state officials said on Sunday, in an outbreak of the childhood disease that has resulted in nearly 500 cases in Texas and has spread across 22 states.

Texas child died from measles April 3 amid an ongoing outbreak in the state, the Texas Department of State Health Services announced April 6.

With falling vaccination rates and outbreaks that have caused more than 580 U.S. cases and at least two deaths, health experts expect hundreds or even thousands more to be infected in the coming months.

A second child, who was unvaccinated and had no underlying health conditions, died from measles in Texas on April 3.

Ahead of a “Make America Healthy Again” tour across the southwestern U.S., Kennedy said in a social media post that he was in Gaines County to comfort the families who have buried two young children.

Hospital spokesperson, Aaron Davis, said the child had no underlying health conditions and was receiving treatment for measles complications while hospitalized, the Associated Press reported. Newsweek reached out to UMC Health System and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) via email on Sunday for comment.
