The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to allow devotees to perform Chhath Puja at banks of Yamuna river here, noting that it was highly polluted and could lead to people falling sick.

A PIL seeking permission for Chhath Puja on the Yamuna’s banks was dismissed by the Delhi High Court due to severe pollution concerns. The court emphasized health risks and noted nearly 1,000 alternative locations for the ritual.

The court was informed by the Delhi Government that Yamuna riverbed is highly polluted and if the devotees are allowed to perform Chhath Puja on the riverbed, they can fall sick.
