Google Nest announced two major changes to its Google Home lineup of smart devices. First, it's going to end sales of its Nest Protect smoke detector, which featured on our list of recommended smoke detectors as one of the smartest fire alarms available.

Life safety manufacturer First Alert launched a new line of smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms this week that will work with Google Home. Following Google’s decision to discontinue its Nest Protect smart smoke alarm, the company has announced it’s partnering with First Alert on the First Alert Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm.

Google is doing away with its Nest Protect smoke alarms and partnering with First Alert to manufacture a newer, more modern solution.
