A clinically insane Connecticut man who ate part of his victim's brain and one of his eyeballs while drinking sake has been granted conditional release from a maximum-security psychiatric hospital in a decision which critics say "puts public safety in jeopardy.

Tyree Smith — also known as the ‘Bridgeport Cannibal Killer’ — was granted a conditional release by the Connecticut Psychiatric Security Review Board on Feb. 22. In 2013, Smith was declared not guilty by reason of insanity in connection to Angel Gonzalez’s death.
