Now, Whitlock should be ready to go in 2025, but Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow isn't willing to commit to a role just yet, as Whitlock has been great as a reliever (2.65 ERA in 80 games) and not as good as a starter (4.29 ERA in 23 starts).

The Red Sox look to be one of the top suitors for impact starting pitching. As teams laid the groundwork for the offseason at this week’s GM Meetings, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow suggested the Sox are evaluating ways to land a top-flight starter.

The group is headlined by center fielder Roman Anthony who is nearing his big league debut at just 20 years old. Anthony finished the 2024 season at Triple-A Worcester where he went 45-for-131 (.344) with a .463 on-base percentage, .519 slugging percentage, .983 OPS, three homers, 12 doubles, one triple, 33 runs and 20 RBIs in 35 games.
