For the second time in a week, Judge Beverly Cannone denied Karen Read's attorneys' request for a mistrial after they accused the prosecution of misconduct.

The judge in Karen Read’s murder retrial on Monday denied the defense’s latest demand that a mistrial be declared after the prosecution admitted to making a “mistake” while cross-examining a key witness in the case.

Read, 45, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of O’Keefe, who was found outside the home of a fellow Boston police officer on Jan. 29, 2022. Norfolk County prosecutors say Read struck O’Keefe with her SUV while driving intoxicated. Read’s attorneys say her car never struck O’Keefe and that others are to blame for his death.
