Seoul's data protection body discovered that Meta has been collecting confidential user data. What's worse, they are distributed to advertisers without consent.

Meta, the U.S.-based parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has been fined approximately 21.6 billion won (around $15.43 million) for using sensitive personal information from 980,000 Facebook users in South Korea for targeted advertising.

Meta has been fined 21.62 billion won ($15.67 million) by South Korea's data privacy watchdog for illegally collecting sensitive personal information from Facebook users, including data about their political views and sexual orientation, and sharing it with advertisers without their consent.
