After an uneven start to the season, the Mets rallied with a victory behind Juan Soto's first home run and a strong start by Tylor Megill.
Even though he features a vast arsenal of eight pitches, against the Astros, Megill only used five, three of which accounted for 94% of his throws. Two of those pitches, his curveball and changeup, he only threw four times combined.
Those are all reasons Megill leapfrogged Blackburn on the depth chart. Last July, the Mets acquired Blackburn from the Athletics to try to bolster the rotation, bumping Megill to the minors. At the end of camp, Megill has come out on top.
