Boston Red Sox designated hitter Rafael Devers became the first major leaguer to strike out 12 times in a season’s first four games.

The Boston Red Sox and star designated hitter Rafael Devers have started off the 2025 MLB season with a 1-2 record. On Saturday, the Red Sox fell to the Texas Rangers by a final score of 4-3. Devers has played in all three games, but has not recorded a single hit in 12 at-bats. He does have one RBI and has drawn a walk.

Rafael Devers set an MLB record that no hitter wants to set. Devers — who Boston named its full-time DH ( manager Alex Cora said he won’t play any third base this season) — is 0-for-12 with 10 strikeouts and one bases loaded walk in the Red Sox ’ first three games.
