Republican voters in North Carolina cast ballots in greater numbers than four years ago, while Democratic turnout sagged.

Republicans have won here in every presidential election since 2012, but it has been very competitive. Mr. Trump won in 2020 by 1.3 percentage points, his smallest margin of any state.

Trump is already expected to win Arizona and its 11 electoral votes. If he does, Harris cannot become president without winning Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada and Pennsylvania. As of 11:35 p.m. ET, Trump has the lead over Harris in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

(Reuters) - Democrat Josh Stein won the North Carolina governor's race on Tuesday, Fox News projected, defeating Republican Mark Robinson, whose candidacy imploded following a CNN report that he had called himself a "Black Nazi" and made other offensive remarks on a pornographic website.

Democrats had held hopes that they could win the traditionally Republican state - the six other battlegrounds are yet to be projected.

Voters from across North Carolina are casting their ballots for a number of offices today, ranging from local races to the next president of the United States. While many have already opted for the early voting process, thousands more are expected to vote on Election Day.
