After decimating neighborhoods in Altadena, the Eaton Fire has now become one of the deadliest in California history.​

The Clay fire, which broke out Tuesday in a river bottom in Riverside County east of Los Angeles, quickly spread to nearly 40 acres. But by Tuesday night, crews had stopped its progress and were doing “extensive mop-up operations,” Riverside officials said. The family of an Eaton fire victim is suing Southern California Edison for wrongful death, alleging that the utility company's negligence is to blame for the devastating blaze that killed 59-year-old Evelyn McClendon.
