Contender, a male great white shark measuring nearly 14 feet long, is the largest ever tagged and studied among the Northwest Atlantic white shark population, according to researchers.
According to its tracker, the shark then headed south to Florida, pinging far east of Amelia Island on Jan. 18 and off St. Augustine Beach on Jan. 20, before surfacing in South Florida Sunday.
