Thousands of veterans have lost their jobs across federal agencies in sweeping cuts by the Trump administration, according to lawmakers.

Democrats are proposing a measure to reinstate veterans who were recently fired from the federal government without cause, which has affected an estimated 6,000 veterans who make up about 30 percent of the federal workforce.

Democratic lawmakers and veterans’ groups are fuming over the Department of Veterans Affairs’s (VA) plans to cut roughly 80,000 employees in the coming months, decrying the lack of transparency and lack of pushback from their colleagues across the aisle.
