San Diego college basketball teams are meeting the moment and making history. State of play: The 2025 March Madness brackets were revealed Sunday, and four local teams are playing in the NCAA Tournament — a first for the city.

Madness here we come. San Diego has four teams heading to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in history — Aztecs and Tritons men’s and women’s.

UC San Diego (20-15), the winners of the Big West Tournament, were seeded 16th in the West Region. The Tritons will meet Southern University (20-14) in a play-in game at Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus at 7 p.m. Wednesday. If the Tritons win that game, they will play No. 1 seed and No. 1 ranked UCLA (30-2) Friday on the Bruins’ court.

After the San Diego State men’s basketball team fell in its first-round matchup against Boise State in the Mountain West tournament, it was a real possibility the 2023 national runner-up Aztecs would be left out of March Madness.

The Wolverines are in the South region and are set to play a tough UC San Diego team that has the longest winning streak in the nation. CBS announced that Michigan basketball and UC San Diego will tip off at 10 p.m. EDT with the game being broadcast nationally on TBS.
