After months of debate, there may no longer be a special election to choose a new Public Works Commissioner in Saratoga Springs after all.

Wednesday’s end-of-day election returns update had current councilmember Stephanie Klopfenstein in a lead over former councilmember Diedre Thu-Ha Nguyen and five other challengers to become the city’s next mayor. Klopfenstein had garnered over 1,600 votes more than Nguyen in second place.

As of Tuesday, incumbent Klein held a significant lead over Melton, with 74% of the vote. In District 2, incumbent Cisneros had about 70% of the vote, well ahead of former Councilmember Jim Davis, while Le in District 6 was racing ahead with 55% of the vote.

The city will have major leadership change next year with a new mayor and three new council members elected. But on the School Board, four incumbents won reelection.

Westminster voters chose to continue selecting their elected leaders in the way they always have: by a citywide vote rather than dividing the city up into three geographic wards.

The incumbents seeking re-election include Mayor Elizabeth "Liz" Becerra, Councilwoman Blanca Gomez, and Councilwoman Leslie Irving.
