Particularly Dangerous Situation: What is it and when are they issued by the National Weather Service

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Millions of Southern Californians were on edge as a final round of dangerous fire weather was forecast for the region on Wednesday, along with a rare warning of a “Particularly Dangerous Situation” for an area near where two massive blazes have killed at least 25 and destroyed thousands of homes.

A week after some of California's most destructive wildfires erupted, the Southern California region is preparing for the next "Particularly Dangerous Situation."

The “particularly dangerous situation” was in effect for an area that includes parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Additional water tankers and scores of firefighters arrived at the Los Angeles area on Monday ahead of fierce winds that were forecast to return and threaten the progress made so far on two massive infernos that have destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least 24 people.

The most serious red flag fire weather warning has been issued by the NWS for swaths of L.A. and Ventura counties starting before dawn Tuesday.

A rare alert called a "Particularly Dangerous Situation" is in effect Wednesday for parts of fire-ravaged southern California. The National Weather Service initially issued the warning for Tuesday but extended it after Tuesday’s conditions were less hazardous than expected.
