Manchester City's chances of Champions League football next season were given a huge boost as late goals from Nico O'Reilly and Mateo Kovacic beat Everton 2-0 on Saturday to move the champions up to fourth in the Premier League.

Manager Pep Guardiola on Friday said Manchester City can use the disappointment of having to watch the Champions League's knockout stages from home as fuel for their bid to earn qualification for the next edition of the tournament.

It means they have a lot to play for, unlike Tottenham and Manchester United, who were in action last night. "It is not a bad thing to fight to qualify for the Champions League," he said.
