The female macaque, Ruma, is 15 years old. Lion-tailed macaques are considered an endangered species. They are known for the tip of their tails, which is "tufted" like that of a lion.

KOCHI: An increase in human interaction is posing a threat to the already endangered lion-tailed macaque. The primate, endemic to the Western Ghats, is classified as endangered on the IUCN Red List.
