World Athletics has announced that it will begin genetic testing for all female track and field athletes in the future, according to the Washington Post. The new policy could have an impact on Olympic athletes in the near future.

The change affects women with atypical genetics who have been able to compete if they suppressed their testosterone levels.

World Athletics president Sebastian Coe says the track and field’s governing body has approved the introduction of cheek swabs and dry blood-spot tests for female athletes in order to maintain “the integrity of competition.
