Former Aston Villa women's manager Carla Ward will take over as coach of the Ireland women's team, the country's football association (FAI) said on Wednesday.

In appointing Carla Ward, the FAI have gone for a manager with considerable life experience, even if she may lack international experience.

Ward is currently working towards completing the UEFA Pro Licence and was part of the staff with the United States Women’s National Team as they won Gold at the 2024 Olympic Games.
