Embattled San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus has filed a $10 million claim against the county, alleging gender and racial discrimination after the county released a report last November containing scathing findings about her administration.

San Mateo County officials are refuting allegations of discrimination, harassment, defamation and racism made by San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus in a $10 million claim she filed against the county late last month.

The County of San Mateo responded Monday to a claim filed last month by Sheriff Christina Corpus that alleged she is a victim of discrimination, harassment and defamation. The claim comes after a 400-page report was released by the county’s independent investigator accusing the sheriff of racism,

The controversy surrounding San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus is continuing into the new year. A report against the sheriff was released last year which followed calls for her to resign. The sheriff is now countering with a complaint against the county that claims discrimination.

Sheriff Christina Corpus has hired retired Martinez Police Chief Manjit Sappal to “provide strategic support” to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff’s office announced in a news release this week.

The growing controversy involving the San Mateo County sheriff, county supervisors and many of her deputies appears likely to head to court.

A complaint against the County of San Mateo was filed by Sheriff Christina Corpus in December. Local media was supposed to hear from the sheriff on Monday about the complaint, but that press conference was canceled.
