The head of the beleaguered U.S. Postal Service, Louis DeJoy, resigned Monday after nearly five years in the position.

Louis DeJoy's departure comes as President Trump and Elon Musk's DOGE have floated the idea of privatizing mail service.

DeJoy was nearing his fifth year in the role and left his 10-year plan for the organization for his successor to accomplish.

The postmaster general had said in February that he would stay on until a successor was chosen.
