The Los Angeles Dodgers got a gift thanks to a terrible call on Saturday against the New York Mets. During the top of the second inning at Citi Field, Dodgers rookie catcher Dalton Rushing came to the plate with runners on first and third and one out. L.A. already led 1–0 and Mets starting pitcher David Peterson was trying to work out of a jam.

The New York Mets (31-21) evened up their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers (32-20) on Saturday night at Citi Field, riding a stellar outing from David Peterson and a clutch double by Juan Soto to secure a 5-2 victory.

Soto, who whose long double hit the top of the wall in right center field and narrowly missed being a grand slam, brought home Brett Baty and Francisco Lindor, but it wasn’t a bases-clearing hit as Starling Marte was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Nevertheless, Soto’s hit was still a big one that gave the Mets a 4-2 lead.
During the rain delay the Mets put Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers up on the Citi Field big screen in center field. Fans who would have been huddled in the concourse during a standard rain delay came back out to watch the action from the covered seats.
