Mayor Todd Gloria maintained a nearly 10-point lead over San Diego police officer Larry Turner Wednesday, with thousands of ballots yet to be processed. Incumbent Gloria held a 54.5% share of the vote compared to Turner's 45.

Gloria, who previously served on the City Council and in the state Assembly, was leading political newcomer Larry Turner, a Marine veteran and police officer, by 54.6% to 45.4% with 62% of ballots counted After polling 50.

Gloria, a Democrat, will face off with nominally independent Turner for the nonpartisan office. However, the SDPD officer has received financial support from Republicans in the past six months.
