There is a puzzle (at least for me) in that Richelieu’s turrets might be more vulnerable that one might initially suspect to hits on turret roofs if such hits could cause fragments to detach from the inside of the facehardened armour.

Bismarck's scarp is also about the same thickness as the lower armor deck, but of course much thicker and obviously the Bismarck's designers intended the increased thickness to provide better protection against shells piercing the main armor belt.

Jun 10, 2013 · Finally, to close with the final battle it eems that KGV got all the camera action with poor old Rodney being left out to one side (like in 'Sink the Bismarck') but one shot shows Bismark's B turret beng blown over the side.Altogether, a very 'Rocky Doccy' made I suspect to promote the book by Mr Ballantyne. not one of his better efforts.

If spotted there a stop over would keep the British guessing--was it a redeployment, had the squadron been escorting supply ships, was it preparation for a break out in the near future or the first leg of a sortie, etc.
