The President’s Mansion is one of the oldest and most recognized buildings on campus. Located across from Denny Chimes, it stands as a symbol of the historical legacy of The University of Alabama.

Tuscaloosa County is home to many historic buildings as well, including the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion in Tuscaloosa, the Denny Chimes Tower and Gorgas House on the campus of the University of Alabama, and the Mildred Warner House.

The Tax Assessor is elected by the people of Tuscaloosa County, and is responsible for locating taxable property in the County, assessing the value, identifying the owner, and publishing annual and supplemental assessment rolls.

Tuscaloosa County is 1321 square miles. The city of Tuscaloosa was nicknamed the ‘Druid City’ due to the many water oaks planted downtown beginning in the 1840s.

The Probate Judge is recognized in a special category, because the Probate Judge has legal functions as well as many political and administrative roles. The Code of Alabama 1975 and its supplements contain the general statutory provision affecting the Probate Office.
